What it looks like

Band 7, criterion by criterion.

Task Response
Answers the main parts of the question with a clear position. Ideas are developed, though some may be too general.
Coherence and Cohesion
Ideas come in a logical order with clear progress. Linking words are varied, with some used too much or too little.
Lexical Resource
Enough range to be flexible and precise, with some less common words and a few errors in word choice or spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
A variety of complex sentences, many with no errors at all. Grammar and punctuation are generally well controlled.

On Task 1, Task Achievement takes the place of Task Response. Covers what the task asks, with a clear overview or every bullet point answered. Key points could be developed a little more.

The band

How a 7 for the task is worked out.

Each of the four criteria gets a whole band from the examiner, and the task band is the average of the four. IELTS does not say how that average is rounded, so the band score calculator estimates it with its overall-band rule.
