FAQ

Questions about the samples.

Are these real student essays?

No. They were written with AI help to show what writing at each band looks like, on questions from our own practice library. They are not copied from students or from an exam. Each one was then marked by our checker, and its page shows the bands it gave.

Should I learn a sample answer by heart?

No. Examiners notice learned text, and a learned answer rarely fits the question you get. Use a sample to see how the ideas are planned and explained, then write your own answer.

Can I get my own answer checked?

Yes. Write an answer to the same question and get a band for each criterion, every mistake fixed and a rewrite at your target band. A free account checks up to 10 essays, and you can get more by adding your exam date or inviting a friend.

Why are there no Band 9 samples?

Most students aim for Band 6, 7 or 8, so those are the bands we show. A Band 8 answer already shows most of what examiners reward.
