Open your program's admission page and look for three things. Write the answers down before you book a test. Mundus Journalism shows why: one track wants 6.5 in each part and takes neither IELTS Online nor One Skill Retake, while the others take both.
Every Mundus Journalism track asks for IELTS Academic, and in IELTS's own 2024-2025 Academic data, Writing had the lowest average of the four skills. IELTS test taker performance data, 2024-2025.
One Skill Retake: accepted on the London, Munich and Prague tracks of Mundus Journalism, and not on the Amsterdam track. Check your own program.
Who accepts One Skill Retake
Pick as your target the Writing band you need for admission. Your program sets it. MA Euroculture, for example, asks for at least 6.0 in Writing, and the Mundus Journalism Amsterdam track for 6.5. Your rewrite then shows that band, built from your own ideas.
Write Academic Task 1 chart reports and Task 2 essays well before your program's deadline, timing each one with the practice timer.
Start with the lowest of your four criterion bands and its labeled corrections. Read your recent Task 1 and Task 2 bands together before you book, so a second try still fits before the deadline.
Each program sets its own English rule. The European Commission says each program's own site lists its entry rules, so start with your program's admission page.
Not for Mundus Journalism, which asks for IELTS Academic on every track. Other programs set their own rules, so check yours. The MA Euroculture page, for example, does not say which version it needs.
It depends on the program, and even the track. Mundus Journalism accepts it on its London, Munich and Prague tracks, but not on its Amsterdam track.
