A Band 7 report.
The bar chart compares how far adults aged between 25 and 64 went in their education in six countries in 2022.
Overall, South Korea and Canada had the most educated adults, as at least half of them had tertiary education. In contrast, in Brazil, India and Nigeria the biggest group had not finished the secondary school, while Germany stood out for upper secondary education.
Canada had the highest share of adults with tertiary education at 57%, followed by South Korea with 50%. In both countries, fewer than one in five people had not completed secondary school. Germany was different, because a big part of its adults (53%) had finished upper secondary education, the highest figure for this level, but only 29% had tertiary education.
The other three countries showed the opposite pattern. In Nigeria, 70% of adults had below secondery education, compared with 63% in India and 50% in Brazil. Only 8% of Nigerians had tertiary education, and the figures for India and Brazil was 12% and 18%. Upper secondary levels in these countries were between 22% and 32%.
