Band 6 essay sample: contacting staff on holidays.

Nowadays, technology like smartphones and email make it very easy for companies to contact their workers at any time. Some employers even expect from their staff to answer messages during their holidays. Because of this, many workers feel that they are never really free. This situation is very stressfull for them. In my opinion, this trend has more disadvantages than advantages.

Firstly, there are some advantages for the companies. If there is an urgent problem, the manager can call the right person quickly and the problem can be solved in few minutes. This is useful for small companies with few workers. Moreover, some workers like this because they feel important for the company.

Secondly, the disadvantages are much more serious. Workers need to make a rest, they cannot relax with a phone in their hand all the time. For example, many people check their work emails at the beach or during dinner with their family, and this create problems at home. Furthermore, being always available can cause stress and health problems like headaches or insomnia. It can also damage their privacy life and their relationships. Also, tired workers make more mistakes after the holiday. My uncle worked for a big company and his boss call him every day of his vacation.

In conclusion, I believe that contacting workers on holidays has more negative effects than positive effects. Companies should respects the free time of their employees, because a rested worker is a better worker. It is also neccessary that the government makes clear laws about this.
