Stop building a new essay every time
Many students read a new Task 2 question and feel lost. They try to invent a fresh essay shape from zero. This wastes time and makes the essay messy. But you do not need a new plan for each question. One simple shape fits almost every Task 2 question, whether it asks for your opinion, a discussion of two sides, or a problem and a solution. Learn it once, and you can stop staring at a blank page.
The one shape: 4 to 5 paragraphs
1Introduction
Say the question in your own words. Do not copy it. Then state your opinion in one clear sentence. Now the reader knows your answer before they read a single body paragraph.
2Body 1: your first idea
Give one idea that supports your opinion. Add a reason why it is true. Then add a short, general example. One main idea per paragraph, no more.
3Body 2: a different idea
Give a second, different idea. Again: a reason, and an example. Make sure it is a new point, not the same idea in new words.
4Body 3 (optional)
Only add this if you have a strong third idea and enough time. Two good body paragraphs beat three weak ones. Never pad.
5Conclusion
Say your opinion again in new words. Add one final thought. Do not copy your introduction sentence by sentence.
Why this shape works for every question
For an opinion question, your two ideas are your two reasons. For a discussion question, body 1 looks at one side and body 2 looks at the other, and your opinion still runs through both. For a problem and solution question, body 1 is the main problem and body 2 is the solution. The frame does not change. Only what you put inside each box changes.

The weak opener says nothing and wastes words. The strong one says the question in your own words and gives your opinion at once. The reader knows your answer from line one.
A body paragraph
✕Cars cause pollution. Also, city centers are beautiful. Many tourists enjoy old buildings and museums.
✓Banning cars cuts pollution, because fewer engines means cleaner air. For example, people who live in a car-free center can open their windows without breathing fumes.
The weak one drifts to a new topic and forgets the opinion. The strong one is one idea, one reason, one example, and it argues back toward the opinion. Every paragraph should point at your answer.
The conclusion
✕In today's modern world, this is a very important topic that many people talk about.
✓For these reasons, I believe car-free centers are worth the change. Cleaner air today may also lead to healthier habits tomorrow.
The weak conclusion just copies the intro and adds nothing. The strong one says the opinion again in new words and leaves the reader with one final thought.
Your essay is ready when...
✓Your opinion is clear in the introduction and again in the conclusion.
✓Each body paragraph has one idea, one reason, and one example.
✓Every paragraph argues back toward your opinion, not away from it.
✓You did not copy the question or copy your own intro word for word.
✓Your paragraphs start in different ways, not all with the same word.
✓You have 4 to 5 paragraphs and at least 250 words.
The quick test before you write body 2
Try this: imagine you delete your introduction. Would a reader still know your opinion from the body paragraphs alone? If yes, your essay is well built. If no, your paragraphs have drifted, and you need to point each one back to your answer. This one check keeps your whole essay on shape.
