About this blog

Most IELTS writing advice tells you what a band 7 answer looks like. It rarely tells you what is costing you the half band you keep losing. These articles start from the mistakes real candidates make - the memorised opening that adds nothing, the overview that describes instead of summarises, the paragraph that changes topic halfway through - and show the before and after, so you can see the difference rather than take our word for it.

Everything here covers both exams. For Academic Task 1 there is a guide for each chart you might be given: line graphs, bar charts, pie charts, tables, process diagrams and maps. For General Training Task 1 the focus is letters and the register each type expects. Task 2 is shared by both exams, so those articles apply whichever one you are sitting. We write in plain English rather than examiner jargon, because the vocabulary of the marking criteria is not what raises your score.

VoyaLang is an AI IELTS writing checker. You submit an essay and it returns per-criterion band scores, a corrected version showing every change, and a rewrite aimed at your target band. These articles are the thinking behind that feedback, written out so they are useful even if you never submit a single essay to us.
